Introducing the Family LogCabin

Hi, I am Angela. My sister and I are making an afghan for our grandma and grandpa in New Mexico. She crochets and I knit, what betterpattern than a log cabin (instead of doing squares... zzzzz) for a combined project?

The goal is to attempt not to repeat a stitch patterns. Already we are seeing some problems with this, since different stitches have different gauges, specifically-- ribbing. The cables pull in, but I expected that. I am sure that as we go on and we learn more (esp about picking up the proper ammount of stitches) the blanket will even out more.

You can click it to see it a little bigger. Another problem I think we will have is that the crochet is the top and bottom and the knitting is the left and right. Should we stick it out like that? Or start mixing it up a little?

afghan progress

This is about what I have knitted so far. I have knitted all the yarn I had intended to go in this blanket up now. I was aiming for a very big blanket - I have 28 squares now, and it just is not long enough (according to the recipient - DS). As I wanted to do this solely from stash, I was in a quandry - use the remaining cotton that had 'KF vest' written on it, or not ? I decided to use them after all. I just need 4 squares. After that I plan to knit a wide border around the blanket. That should add length and width also. I have found 9 balls of a very dark brownish red in my stash. It's a bit heavier weight then the cotton glace and Anny Blatt yarns I am using right now, so I cannot use this to knit squares, but I think it will work for the borders.

started a blog -square 13

I have started a blog and would like to ad the log-cabin button to my blog. Can anybody help me do this ? I am new at blogging ... (my blog is at www.dominiqueknitting.blogspot.com)
I have also knitted the 13th square of my log-cabin afghan. Because I almost ran out of red, I used 2 different shades in one square. I think I like it.

Log Cabin Blanket Finished!!

I'm happy to report that I am finished with my log cabin blanket. It was my goal to finish it by the end of August and I ended up finishing it on September 3 instead. I am extremely pleased with how it turned out. It's knitted up with Sugar and Cream yarn and is suprisingly cozy. It measures 50 inches square. There are more pictures on my blog.

picked it back up again

After finishing summer knitting, I went back to the log cabin afghan. I am still determined to knit a full size blanket, but at this rate it will take some time. And it will be heavy ! Still, I am pleased with how it is coming along. I ran out of red yarn, so will have to start squares with other colors as a center.
