Newbie Here

Hi to All,
Thanks so much for letting me join this KAL. I have wanted to do a LC for so long, but the one time I tried I was unsure of how to pick up the stitches in the garter stitch ridges along the side of my first piece. Does this make sense? Somehow, it just didn't look right to me. Any tips? Love seeing everyone's work.
